Why do practical work?

The scientific method develops and improves theory (our understanding of natural phenomena and the underlying processes)

The purpose of completing practical work during the course and the individual investigation in particular is to develop an appreciation for the scientific method. Watch Mr W's introduction to the Scientific method and afterward use the interactive tutorials to develop an understanding of the principals.

PSOW

The PSOW here is a master list (for DCS) from which teachers will choose most of their lab activities. For further details of labs see the individual sub-topic pages.

ICT in Biology

The documentation on the ICT requirements for the new course is currently not well documented. However it is expected that the five categories will remain the same as they were in the old course:
  • Data logging
  • Graph plotting software
  • Spreadsheet
  • Database
  • Computer model/simulation

ICT in IB Biology as an excellent resource to support teachers (students - unfortunately you need an OCC login to access the site so you will only be able to use it with the help of your teacher) in all aspects of ICT usage from graph construction to online databases.
